Well, the Martinborough wine experience is in the rear view mirror. I'm in the Wellington Airport waiting lounge getting ready to head for Christchurch and Chapter 2...the 10 day Backroads hike.
Good things have happened already today: the drive through the mountain pass was, as my old friend and TR-6 mechanic Max used to say, "Easy, peasy;" the hired car got returned with no damage; the airplane is on time; I talked via Skype with Lauren, visual and all (what will they think of next?); and my Blackberry works. An emailed reply from a Verizon agent told me to do all kinds of things I already had, but she gave me an idea. I flashed the battery (took it out and reloaded it) and the device fixed itself. I've been perfectly happy without a phone, but it'll be nice to have it nonetheless.
